Occupational Therapy and Mindfulness go hand-in-hand to bring awareness and balance to our brain and bodies!
Do you have concerns regarding self regulation and sensory processing for yourself or your family, student, classroom or school community? Check out the many different ways The Mindful OT can help support you!

What is OT?
Everyone has an "occupation" or a job. A child's occupation is to grow, learn, do schoolwork, and play. Occupational Therapy (or OT) is a branch of healthcare that helps people of all ages, and all abilities learn (or re-learn) how to carry out every day activities such as brushing their teeth, putting on shoes, managing sensory regulation, learning strategies for focus/attention for school, home or play, and becoming as independent as possible. OT's can be found working in schools, hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers.
 What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness can be described as the practice of "paying attention". Learning to really pay attention to the signals around us or within us is a critical skill that can aide our ability to self-regulate! Mindfulness is "Noticing". It is noticing how our body feels, what we see, what we hear, and what we feel by focusing our attention on this moment. Often our minds dwell on future things, or things from the past. Mindfulness is practicing being in the moment that is "right here....right now". Mindfulness and Occupational Therapy, together, can provide a comprehensive approach to sensory regulation and whole brain learning integration that can benefit all of us.

Testimonials

"Ruthie teaches yoga to the primary children at Canandaigua Montessori School. She has such a gentle, beautiful approach with children that truly makes the yoga experience special to each child. Her class is engaging, fun and hands on while teaching the children important skills like being mindful, deep breathing, and calm. It is an honor to offer such an incredible experience with Ruthie to the children of our school".
~Grace, Montessori School Director

"Ruthie came into my classroom every Monday to teach a mindfulness lesson. The students learned breathing techniques, how to calm their "busy" brain and how to manage their emotions at an age appropriate level. We would then use these skills throughout our school week and it helped my students transition peacefully. Their parents would also tell me they would use it at home! She even created a Nature Center at my school with sensory calming stations. I had a few students use it daily! Ruthie is an amazing educator who has helped my students grow socially and emotionally.
~Michelle, 1st grade teacher

"Our family is truly blessed to have had Ms. Ruthie enter our lives. She exudes gentleness, kindness, love and compassion in her work that carries on in the lives she touches. Rowan is now eight years old and continues to practice self-regulation skills, mindfulness, breathing techniqes and yoga. She even encourages others to participate with her. "
